Mummy’s Super Power…

Since becoming a mother, I have acquired a skill akin to a super power. It is a skill I have improved with time and I am most proud of.

You see, before motherhood I needed both my hands to do anything and everything. I simply could not fathom doing anything with one hand. On the chance I had decorated my left hand with mhendi, I would require to be fed and ask others to hold a glass to my mouth whilst I sipped water. (Gosh, how pretentious of me!)

All this changed when motherhood befell upon me though. I became a professional in the art of doing things with one hand. Yes, accomplishing tasks with just ONE HAND is indeed a super power. With my little monkey on my hip, secured by my right hand, I can accomplish almost anything with the other. Long gone is the struggle to sip water. Below is a short compilation of things I can do one handed, and boy does it make me feel rather smug sometimes…

1) Feed myself and my son

2) Make breakfast

3) Wash dishes

4) Remove clothes from the washing machine

5) Make tea (My mummy would be so proud)

6) Comment on other blogs on the laptop or iPhone

7) Put on mine and/or Baby Z’s shoes

8) Fix a broken toy

9) Lift the highchair from the kitchen to the dining room

10) Do an acrobatic dance whilst watching YouTube videos and baking a chocolate cake. I kid you not.

You get the idea. I, and all other mothers for that matter, have this exquisite superpower that we master. It begins from the moment theΒ child is born, becomingΒ more and more demanding each day until our bones crack from their sheer weight.

I must also mention, my left hand is rather floppy but my right hand biceps and triceps have never been in better form. Now I know why that woman on the “We can do it” poster has such admirable muscles! She carries her child with her right hand, whilst conquering the world with her left hand of course!

What is your mummy super power? What tasks can you accomplish with one hand? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments section below!Β
